The Black Cat
The ability to see in the dark, the lightning quick reflexes and glowing eyes all lend weight to the superstition that black cats are unlucky. Cats will often freeze in place and look at a disturbance that is almost undetectable to us, which many people believe is evidence that the common housecat can see into the spirit realm. In fact, that belief has endured for over a thousand years. No other domestic animal is as mysterious, and thus the target of superstition, as the common cat.

Cats have the honour of being mentioned in several religions, and were even deified by the ancient Egyptians. The male cat was inextricably linked to the Egyptian god, Ra, and female cats with the god, Bastet. It was actually worse to kill a cat in ancient Egypt, than it was to kill a human being.

Besides ancient Egypt, the cat can be found in the ancient writings of Mohammed and Confucius. The Romans even took the cat under their wing, and identified felines with their god, Diana, also known as Hecate. This wasn't a good moment for the cat as a race, since Hecate was said to take the form of a cat when she left the underworld to visit earth.

Later, after the fall of Rome, the cat was thought to be the symbol of Satan in Europe. This belief naturally carried over to witches, who were thought to need a familiar if their magical powers were to be effective. Of course, the witch was also thought to be able to take the physical form a black cat.

In short, the cat has been deified, Satanized, Demonized and domesticated. It's really no shock that some of the folklore and beliefs from the past has leaked through to present day, making the cat one of the most feared, yet respected animals to walk the planet.

Medfield State Hospital Photos

My Sis-in-law visited Medfield last week and got some great Shots....I will be going with her Soon and will post my own photos for you guys to check out....

Medfield State Hospital is an historic mental hospital at 45 Hospital Road in Medfield, Massachusetts.
The hospital was built in 1892. At its height it included 58 buildings, on a property of some 3.6 km2 (900 acres), and a capacity of 2,200 patients. It raised its own livestock and produce, and generated its own heat, light and power. Added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1994, the property was closed in April 2003 and was shuttered, and has recently been reopened legally to the public and is open every day from 6 am to 6 pm. It has been used as a filming location for major motion pictures such as Shutter Island and The Box.

Haunted Closet

Years ago i had an old wardrobe closet in my bedroom....every so often the door would slowly swing open making an eerie creaking sound....my imagination made my head spin with ideas...i envisioned a creepy ghostly figure might appear inside...

Here is what i imagined...

This wardrobe is 6" high which would work fine if you would like to use it in a 1/12th Scale setting....
I painted it with layers of mixed colors to give it an old creepy appeal...i also sanded the corners and other areas....

inside i added a ghostly head and hands reaching out from the world beyond hand sculpted from polymer clay....

This Optical Illusions...If you look at this photo more closely, you will notice that the eyes and happy mouth aren’t drawn on these two kettles, instead it’s the perfect example of anamorphism. It’s hard to believe, that the photo was taken from the perfect angle, so that the reflection of the stove makes the happy face on the kettles.

This after-image optical illusion appears, once you’ve stared at the red dot in the center of the USA flag more than 30 seconds; now quickly turn your eyes towards some white spot – for examlpe: your celling, a wall, piece of paper… What do you see?

Ronit Baranga has a B.A. in Psychology and Hebrew Literature from Haifa University, Israel. She has also taken courses in Art History (Tel-Aviv University) and Practical Arts Studies (Bet-Berl College).
The first exhibition in which she participated was held in Israel in 2000. Additional exhibitions in a number of Israeli cities followed, as well as in Italy and Great Britain.

Supermoon is a term used to describe how large or how close the moon is to Earth and on Saturday, March 19, 2011, the full moon is going to be the larger than usual. The moon sometimes gets closer to Earth than at other times, this causes the moon to appear much larger.

There is a conspiracy theory brewing in that the Supermoons are related to the massive earthquakes and tsunamis. This however has not been proven. The moon is however shown to cause increased tides on a full moon because of gravitational pull.

The full moon on March 19, 2011 will be the closest it has been to Earth since 1992. When the Moon is closest to Earth it is said to be at its perigee. When it is at the farthest distance from Earth it is at its apogee.

The effects of a Supermoon can be subtle providing more light and a slightly larger size. Still, it would be worth a look outside tonight to see the Supermoon. The next time there is a Supermoon will be on November 14, 2016.

Broken Spectre phenomenon

As Daily Mail reported, a climber in Poland has taken this astonishing photo, of what appears to be a ghostly figure emerging from the morning mist on the side of a mountain. This illusion, which occurred at dawn in the Tatra mountains (Zakopane), is actually what is known as a Broken Spectre phenomenon.

It can be easily reproduced, since it occurs when there’s a low sun shining behind someone looking downwards into fog, with their shadow projected forwards. German scientist called Johann Silberschlag first observed the phenomenon way back in 1780, but since then they have been seen and recorded many times in the region. It is a superstition found among mountain climbers that whoever sees a Brocken Spectre will die in the mountains the very next day!

Liu Bolin

35-year-old Liu Bolin, from Shandong, China, manages to camouflage himself in any surroundings, no matter how difficult they might be.

Liu works on a single photo for up to 10 hours at a time, to make sure he gets it just right, but he achieves the right effect: sometimes passers-by don’t even realize he is there until he moves.

The talented Liu Bolin says his art is a protest against the actions of the Government, who shut down his art studio in 2005 and persecutes artists. It’s about not fitting into modern society. Despite problems with Chinese authorities, Liu’s works are appreciated at an international level.

Their Packaging was designed like a Haunted House....

I missed out on owning These SpOOky little guys and they are near impossible to find now...

This is what i do with my old Calenders...The images are so cool that i can't just toss then in the garbage...so i took an envelope...opened it to make a pattern...positioned it to get the best subject...then trace & cut....fold and glue (Gluestick works good)....These are all set to send out once you apply your address labels...
